How to evaluate a research peptide supplier
Judge a supplier on its analytical record, not its copy. The decisive checks are whether certificates are issued per batch by a named third-party laboratory, whether you can retrieve one by batch number without an account, and whether the catalogue avoids claims it is not permitted to make.
1. Is testing per batch, or per product?
The single most informative question. Purity and net content are properties of a batch, so a certificate attached to a product line rather than a batch describes material that may no longer exist. If the same certificate has been on a page for two years, either no new material has been made or new material has not been tested.
2. Is the laboratory named, and is it independent?
An in-house purity figure is a self-assessment. A third-party result is checkable by someone with no commercial interest in it. A certificate that does not name who issued it is not attributable to anyone, which defeats the purpose of having one.
3. Can you retrieve a certificate by batch number, without an account?
Evidence behind a login is not evidence. A supplier confident in its analytical record publishes it openly and lets the batch number on the vial be the key. Having to email for a certificate is a meaningful signal about how routine their production actually is.
4. Does the certificate state methods and specifications?
A number with no method is not a result. Look for the method for each parameter, the detection wavelength for HPLC purity, and a specification the result was measured against. Identity by mass spectrometry should be there alongside purity.
5. Is net peptide content reported?
This is the parameter most often omitted and one of the most useful. Its absence is not disqualifying, but its presence tells you the supplier is reporting the harder, less flattering number.
6. What claims does the catalogue make?
Therapeutic categories, dosing charts, outcome language and testimonials all indicate a supplier that has decided research-use framing is a formality. That is a compliance judgement they have made, and it is reasonable to draw conclusions about their other judgements from it.
7. Are the logistics claims honest?
Sealed lyophilized powder does not need a cold chain in transit. A supplier advertising refrigerated shipping for lyophilized material is either misunderstanding the product or selling reassurance. Stating plainly that material ships at ambient temperature is the more credible position.
8. Is pricing and availability stated honestly?
In stock should mean a batch exists. Pricing pending is an honest state; a price with no released material behind it is not. These are small tells and they are consistent tells.
9. Will they decline to answer something?
A supplier that answers questions about human use is telling you it will say whatever is asked of it. A supplier that declines, and explains why, is showing you a boundary it maintains when it is inconvenient. The second is the one whose certificates are more likely to mean something.
Common questions
What does third-party tested actually mean?
That an independent analytical laboratory, named on the certificate, performed the testing rather than the seller. The distinction matters because it makes the result attributable and checkable.
Should certificates be public?
Yes. A certificate is only useful if the purchaser can retrieve it for their own batch, ideally by the number on the vial and without an account.
Is a higher purity figure a better supplier?
Not on its own. A figure without a method, a wavelength, a batch number and an issuing laboratory carries almost no information, and comparing two such figures compares nothing.
How can I verify a batch number?
Look it up in the supplier's certificate library and check that the number, compound and date match the vial in front of you. Every batch in this catalogue is retrievable that way.
